Cadence McShane Construction Promotes Schmidt to Vice President – Health, Safety & Environmental

Will Hodges, President of Cadence McShane Construction Company, is pleased to announce that John Schmidt has been promoted to Vice President – Health, Safety & Environmental. Schmidt previously served as the firm’s Director of Safety & Environmental Compliance and has now assumed corporate-wide responsibility for the implementation of Cadence McShane’s safety programs throughout the State of Texas and on a national basis.

Schmidt joined the firm in 1998 and contributes over 19 years of comprehensive commercial construction and safety management expertise.  His project experience provides invaluable insights into furthering strategies, procedures and training that enhance Cadence McShane’s exceptional delivery of on-site safety practices while serving its educational, food processing, industrial, multi-family and senior living clients.     

Schmidt is responsible for managing the firm’s comprehensive Safety and Quality Assurance Programs to yield best-in-class safe working practices at the firm’s job sites.  He performs regular project visits serving as both an advisor and mentor ensuring that the highest standards of safety and quality standards are met.  In addition, Schmidt manages the firm’s relationship with OSHA and directs the implementation of safety practices and procedures as prescribed by national associations and governing entities.

Under Schmidt’s direction, Cadence McShane received a National Certificate of Safety Excellence Award within the Building Division by the AGC at its 2014 National Convention. 

Schmidt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Science at Texas A&M University.  He has attended numerous safety-related training courses to develop his skills including EPA – Stormwater Inspection Training; OSHA – Sub-Part R – Steel Erection; CPR and First Aid – AGC; Qualified Rigger Training; Accident Investigation; Mobile Crane Management and Asbestos Awareness, among others.
