McMillen High School
Cadence McShane Construction Company was selected as construction manager at risk for McMillen High School, a 281,900-square-foot educational facility for Plano ISD located in Murphy, Texas.
The educational facility features 67 instructional spaces, 10 comprehensive science laboratories, band and music spaces, a library, competition and practice gymnasiums, a stage and a full-service cafeteria and kitchen. The project also included the construction of several on-campus athletic venues such as a track, practice football and baseball fields and tennis courts.
The two-story educational facility was constructed with structural steel and the exterior is masonry, cast and prairie stone and a limestone plaster finish. A notable construction coordination challenge was the curved colonnade of cast stone arches which flank both sides of the entry. The cast stone members of the arches were designed as the concrete formwork which would hold the reinforcing steel and concrete that filled the core of these arches.
