Will Hodges, President of Cadence McShane Construction Company, is pleased to announce that the firm was selected by Allen Independent School District (Allen ISD) to serve as construction manager at risk for the new 111,057-square-foot STEAM Center.
Located along Ridgeview Drive in Allen, Texas, the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) Center will serve as a satellite campus for Allen High School and will be utilized for field trips by kindergarten through eighth-grade students. The facility will feature two entrances for the separation of high school and K-8 activities.
The two-story campus will include numerous classrooms, specialty labs, collaborative learning spaces, and a 250-seat Sci-Max theater for large group educational programs. Cadence McShane will also complete an outdoor learning pavilion, pond and surrounding low-water landscaping to complement the naturally wooded area. New pathways will meander through the woods where students can experience hands-on outdoor learning.
The contemporary building will boast a unique arching shape and nestle into the sloping site. Exterior finishes include an artful blend of curtain wall, fiber cement siding, masonry and phenolic wall panels with accents of color-shifting tiles.
“Through our experience constructing educational facilities in partnership with highly-respected architectural firms, Cadence McShane has developed a unique understanding of the requirements and strategy necessary to bring each project to a successful conclusion,” stated Hodges. “We look forward to tapping into our decades of expertise to deliver an exceptional center for learning and discovery for Allen ISD.”
Funding for the Allen ISD STEAM Center was made possible by a portion of the school district’s 2015 Bond Program. VLK Architects is providing the architectural services for the project that is slated for completion in Q4 2018.
