Will Hodges, President of Cadence McShane Construction Company, is pleased to announce that work has begun on the new 527,000-square-foot Sherman High School. On October 1st, the district hosted a community wide groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the new school building. The ceremony included food truck vendors and activities such as a souvenir dirt dig, an architectural showcase and a photo station to commemorate the event. The ceremony’s keynote speakers include the School Board President Tim Millerick, the City of Sherman Mayor David Plyler, and Sherman ISD Superintendent Dr. David Hicks. Other keynote speakers included Sherman High School students, Nick Estes who served on the new high school’s design committee and Sophomore President, Gavin Wallace.
The new high school campus will be divided into three main buildings with large open air courtyards connecting each wing. Safety and security features, as well as updated technology infrastructure will be incorporated into the new facilities to improve learning conditions and comply with new state safety standards. The current design calls for structures with a combination of concrete masonry units and metal studs with a masonry veneer. A glass storefront will be featured prominently on the 3-story classroom wing to allow natural light and bring a sense of modernity to the design.
Additional key features include a 2,000-seat JV football stadium, an 800-seat auditorium, a competition gym along with four practice gyms, competition baseball and softball fields, 60-yard long indoor practice facility, and a 50,000-square-foot, standalone fieldhouse. In addition to managing the construction of the on-site structures, Cadence McShane will oversee the development of the surrounding grounds and landscape. They will also supervise the completion of necessary public utility roadway improvements and site paving and fire lane demarcation.
As the construction manager at risk for the project, Cadence McShane will work closely with Sherman ISD and VLK Architects during preconstruction to establish constructability reviews on plan development and budgeting to bring the district’s vision into reality.
