Mitchell Elementary School
Cadence McShane Construction Company was selected as construction manager at risk for the additions and renovations made to Plano ISD’s Mitchell Elementary School located in Dallas, Texas.
The expansion and improvement of the school incorporated 34,376 square feet of new construction and 61,256 square feet of renovations. The new 42 classrooms were constructed to meet the Texas Education Agency classroom size requirement. There were also updates and additions made to the gymnasium, cafeteria, kitchen and library to serve the expanding elementary school. The single-story educational facility’s exterior featured masonry, composite metal panels and a standing seam roof.
During construction on the active school campus, a project challenge was maintaining a safe route for students to walk from their parking lot through the ongoing construction in the building. Each phase of Mitchell Elementary was completed by the beginning of each semester so there were enough classrooms for the students.
