Shields Elementary School Reconstruction
Cadence McShane Construction Company served as construction manager at risk for the reconstruction of Shields Elementary School, located in Red Oak, Texas. Due to damage caused by a tornado that hit the school on December 26, 2015, Cadence McShane rebuilt the existing 82,084-square-foot educational facility.
The exterior walls on the west side of the elementary school had to be reconstructed as they were completely knocked over during the tornado. The remaining exterior walls had to be braced properly to prevent further collapse in the event of another tornado. 90% of the windows and storefront doors were replaced and now include additional protection that will prevent shards of glass if the windows were to break again.
On the interior of the elementary school, the sheetrock was stripped completely off and the metal studs were exposed. The school was repainted, new ceramic tile was installed in every restroom and new carpet was laid throughout the building.
Cadence McShane completed the entire project of Shields Elementary School in 7 ½ months, which allowed the school to re-open just in time for the next school year.
