Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts
Cadence McShane Construction Company completed the construction of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts located at the Wortham Theatre Complex on the campus of the University of Houston. A monetary gift from George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell to the University of Houston funded the construction of the new Center for the Arts, which was named for alum Cynthia Woods Mitchell, who attended the university in the 1940s. The facility attracts elite artists and scholars to the University of Houston and helped to establish it as an international force for education in the arts.
The interior of the existing performing arts center was demolished and 15,000 square feet of new space was constructed on two floors. The facility features an area for classrooms, ballet practice and rehearsal rooms. The lobby was also completely renovated and features a variety of finish materials to represent the collaboration of the many arts programs that coexist within the facility. Cadence McShane performed extensive upgrades and renovations to the exterior of the building including the installation of specialty stone accents and ornamental metal finish treatments.
